GREEN VALLEY RESIDENT WINS ELVIS ROCKS CONTEST IN MESQUITE AGAIN

MESQUITE -- Green Valley resident Johnny Fortuno, left, scored his second straight grand slam Saturday when he captured the second annual $7,000 Elvis Rocks Mesquite competition in the jam-packed CasaBlanca Showroom at the CasaBlanca Resort.

Fortuno, who won the 2011 Ultimate Elvis competition in May on Fremont Street, captured first-place money of $3,000 before a crowd of more than 500 fans.  Ironically, Fortuno had never visited Mesquite before entering Elvis Rocks Mesquite. Finishing second was Maine resident Robert Washington, who won $1,500, and Bruckner, Mo., resident ERok, captured third place, winning $1,000. Each competitor performed Elvis Presley songs from the '50s, '60s and '70s.(Courtesy photos)
