Aces pound 51s behind ex-UNR star

RENO -- Former UNR standout Konrad Schmidt went 4-for-5 with three doubles to pace the Reno Aces to a 13-6 victory over the Las Vegas 51s in a Pacific Coast League game on Tuesday night.

Every player in the lineup collected at least one hit for the Aces, who led 11-1 after five innings en route to pulling within one game of the 51s in the Silver State Diamond Challenge.

Las Vegas has won five games in the season-long competition while Reno has won four.

51s starting pitcher Brad Mills (6-6) lasted only four innings and was roughed up for 14 hits and nine runs, seven of which were earned.

Barry Enright went six innings for the Aces (43-30), holding Las Vegas (40-33) to five hits and two runs and improving his record to 6-2.

Chris Woodward had three hits for the 51s and Adam Loewen had two, including his 12th home run of the season.

The teams will oppose each other for the sixth straight game at 1:05 p.m. today when the four-game series resumes at Aces Ballpark.
