"The Red Shoes," a fairy tale, is scheduled to be presented at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday by the Coral Academy of Science Drama Club. The 45-minute performance is set to take place at the Sandy Ridge Campus, 1051 Sandy Ridge Ave.

The play features a pair of magic shoes and buttonhook, a wicked peddler, an orphan who is reunited with her grandmother and supportive friends.

Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12.

XTERRA RETURNS TO LAKE LAS VEGAS

The Xterra Lake Las Vegas Trail Run is set to kick off at 8 a.m. Saturday at Lake Las Vegas.

Participants can enter the 5K for $25, the 10K for $30 or the 21K for $40. The top male and female runners from the 21K can win a round-trip flight to Hawaii. Runners of all ages and skill levels are invited to register.

THE 20TH ANNUAL TOUR DE CURE
is coming to HENDERSON

The American Diabetes Association is scheduled to host Tour de Cure 2011 from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St.

The 20th annual cycling event hopes to raise money and create awareness of diabetes.

People can participate in the 15-mile family-fun loop, the 45-mile route or the 65-mile route.

Horticulturist from Star Nursery plans to speak at Sunset Garden Club meeting

The Sunset Garden Club plans to meet at noon April 12 at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway. The topic will be "Plant Nutrition and Malnutrition" presented by Linn Mills. Mills is a horticulturist for the Las Vegas Water District at the Springs Preserve, a columnist for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, a Master Gardener and author. This event is open to the public.

Reverend plans to TALKS ABOUT history, traditions of EPIScOPAL FAITH

The Rev. Joseph Duggan is planning a two-day event at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 9041 S. Pecos Road, Suite 4000.

From 6:30 to 9 p.m. April 15 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 16, Duggan is slated to talk about his 16-year journey as a Jesuit, Catholic and eventually a Episcopal priest.

During the event, Duggan plans to answer questions about the faiths' histories and commitments after Rome.

People from all denominations are invited to learn about the history, traditions and the direction of today's Episcopal faith.

HENDERSON LIBRARIES plans EVENT
ON OVERCOMING STRESS

Henderson Libraries plans to hold a seminar on overcoming stress, anxiety and depression from 3 to 4:45 p.m. April 16 at the Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway.

The seminar can teach people how to recognize, avoid and treat various forms of stress, anxiety and depression.

HENDERSON OFFERS JOB SKILLS FOR TEENS

The city of Henderson is offering teens a chance to obtain job skills by offering the Teens-N-Training summer program.

Through April 25 , teens 14 and 15 can apply for the training program, which provides experience by working with the parks and recreation department.

The cost is $110.

Water Authority accepting
nominations for Landscape Awards

The Southern Nevada Water Authority's 13th annual Landscape Awards competition is taking applications.

The contest is open to local residents and landscape professionals interested in showing off their water-efficient landscapes.

Recycle used writing instruments
at Office Depot

Sanford Brands, Office Depot and TerraCycle Inc. are teaming up during Earth Month.

Customers can bring their used writing instruments, regardless of the brand, to any Office Depot store April 17-23. In exchange for 10 pens, pencils or markers, customers will receive a coupon toward a new Sanford product. The collected instruments will be sent to TerraCycle, an upcycling and recycling company, to be turned into new office supply products ranging from trash cans to desk organizers.

To further reduce waste, TerraCycle and Old Navy are partnering from April 22 to May 21 to collect used flip flops and recycle them into four public playgrounds. Simply deposit used flip flops in designated collection bins at your area Old Navy store.

MGM Resorts employees donate
to Nevada Cancer Institute

Employees of MGM Resorts have donated more than $1 million to the Nevada Cancer Institute since 2002 through the employee-funded MGM Resorts Foundation. MGM Resorts has donated more than $1.5 million donations in cash and in-kind contributions. In response, NVCI has named its auditorium the MGM Resorts International Auditorium.

Nevada Cancer Institute, 1 Breakthrough Way, is the official cancer institute for the state, a nonprofit organization and the state's first academic medical institution.
