plans yard sale to raise funds

Happy Home Animal Sanctuary, a nonprofit, no-kill animal rescue in Searchlight, is having its semiannual yard sale from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at 292 Apple Seed Court, Henderson, at the corner of Sky Mountain Way and Apple Seed Court.

Items for sale will include furniture, antiques, tools, collectibles, household goods, baby and kids clothes, and unusual items.

Proceeds are slated to help the group with veterinarian bills. Each rescued cat or dog is examined by a vet, spayed or neutered, and vaccinated. The animals are available for adoption from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays at PetSmart, 9869 S. Eastern Ave., south of Silverado Ranch Boulevard.

PE DIPED OPENS FIRST STORE FRONT

Pediped Foot wear is scheduled to open its first company store Saturday at 1191 Center Point Drive.

Owners Brian and Angela Edgewater, along with Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Chuck Muth to speak at southern hills republican women meeting

Chuck Muth, a former national chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus and former Nevada Republican Party executive director, is scheduled to address the Southern Hills Republican Women on May 24 at Buckman's at the Revere Golf Club, 2600 Hampton Road, Sun City Anthem.

WORKSHOP LOOKS AT WEIGHT GAIN
AND THE MIND'S ROLE

A "Fat Head, Fat Body" workshop is scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m. May 26 at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway.

Diana Gibbs, a published psychology author and former UCLA academic counselor, will discuss how the mind plays a major role in weight gain, why people overeat and how to take control.

The cost of the event is $20.

PUERTO RICAN FESTIVAL planned
for MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

The 13th annual Puerto Rican Memorial Day Festival is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 29 at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway.

The event celebrates the Puerto Rican people in the community with music, food and art showcasing the culture and tradition.

Admission is $10. Children 8 or younger are admitted free.

HEAVEN CAN WAIT to HOST FUNDRAISER

Heaven Can Wait Animal Society is scheduled to host its Gimme Shelter concert and fundraiser at 6 p.m. May 28 at The Village Lake Las Vegas, 30 Strada di Villaggio.

The event is to feature performances from Arms of America, a U2 tribute band, and Skip Martin, a former lead singer of Kool and the Gang.
