Deadline Friday to apply for Raggio’s state Senate seat

RENO -- Candidates interested in serving the unexpired term of retiring state Sen. Bill Raggio have until 5 p.m. Friday to apply.

Washoe County commissioners Tuesday said they will make an appointment Jan 18 .

The 84-year-old Reno Republican is the longest-serving senator in Nevada history, elected to the seat in 1972.

Former state Treasurer Patty Cafferata, former Reno Councilwoman Toni Harsh, former Washoe County Commissioner Jim Galloway, former School Board member Kevin Christensen and Reno businessman Steve Weber have expressed interest.
