An app for taxes

Yes, indeed, there is an app for everything, as the Internal Revenue Service now has a way to let you track your refund, get tax tips and receive news and updates about taxes.

The free app is IRS2Go, and it's available for the Apple iPhone and Google Android phones and Apple iPod Touch.

Taxpayers will need to enter their Social Security numbers into the app; the data will be encrypted for security. The IRS says people who file tax returns electronically can check the status of their refunds within 72 hours of receiving the e-mail acknowledgement that the IRS received their returns. Taxpayers filing paper returns will need to wait three to four weeks before they can check the status of their refunds.

I just downloaded the app, but haven't filed my taxes yet. I plan to use it once I've filed and can track my refund.

The app's been reviewed just five times, and all reviewers gave it high scores.

It'll be good to know when the refund check is in the e-mail
