Soldier who survived Fort Hood shooting in Reno hospital

RENO -- A soldier severely wounded in the Fort Hood, Texas, shooting rampage has made a remarkable recovery in the past 16 months but is hospitalized again after an unexpected injury.

Fort Hood officials say Army Staff Sgt. Patrick Zeigler was recovering Saturday in a Reno hospital after surgery to remove a blood clot.

Zeigler fell during a trip to Reno, where he's being honored by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Zeigler was shot four times in the November 2009 rampage on the sprawling Texas Army post that left 13 people dead and more than two dozen injured. He underwent six brain surgeries, including removal of 20 percent of his brain, and rehabilitation after the 2009 shootings on the Texas Army post. He walks with a cane but danced at his December wedding.
