The Las Vegas Celtic Society plans to host its 2011 Celtic Gathering and Highland Games from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 16 and 17 at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9200 Tule Springs Road.

This is the seventh year for the event, which has grown and become a tradition in the Scottish community in Las Vegas.

The festivities include pipe bands, bagpipe and drum bands, Scottish heavy athletics, Highland and Irish dancing, children's games, queen's court, genealogy, Scottish clans, food and Celtic vendors.

Tickets are $15, $10 for those 60 or older and children 5 to 12. Children younger than 5 are free.

Special Farmers Market planned

Mark your calendars for a special upcoming Las Vegas Farmers Market date at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9200 Tule Springs Road.

A market is planned for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 9. Admission is free.

The monthly market then resumes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every third Saturday. The dates are: May 21, June 18, July 16, Aug. 20, Sept. 17 and Oct 15.

The market is co-sponsored by the city of Las Vegas Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services.

Registration under way
for spring break camp

The city of Las Vegas Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services has opened registration for spring break, which is set from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 18-22.

Youths 6-15 can join the fun and stay busy enjoying age-appropriate activities, including sports, games, special events, arts and crafts under the supervision of staff members.

Camps are $75 for the first child for the week and $70 for each additional child from the same household. Participants will need to bring a sack lunch, a drink and a snack every day.

Locally, spring break camp is planned at the Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road, ages 6-11 only. Call 229-1607 for more information.

Alien life to be explored
during June UFO seminar

Those interested in extraterrestrial life can attend a seminar titled UFOs: Past & Present, scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to
5:30 p.m. June 4 at the Tahiti Resort & Spa, Tower 5, 7200 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Centennial Hills resident Tracie Austin-Peters, host of the radio and TV talk show "Let's Talk...Paranormal" and author of "Welcome to Haunted Las Vegas, Nevada," is an organizer of the event, which is presented by Let's Talk Productions.

The seminar will include guest speakers addressing topics such as UFOs and abductions, ancient technology, alien implants and structures on Mars.
