Supporters aim to save ranch from budget ax
GARDNERVILLE, Nev. -- Supporters are hoping to save a historic Northern Nevada ranch home that became one of the newest additions to the state park system within the last decade from closure for budget reasons.
Friends of the Dangberg Ranch chief Mike Hall told the Record-Courier of Gardnerville that Gov. Brian Sandoval's budget slates the Dangberg Home Ranch State Park for closure at the end of June.
The 5.5-acre ranch is owned by Douglas County, but operated by the state.
It opened to the public in 2007 and tells the history of a family credited with founding Minden in 1906.
Most of its 22,000-item collection once belonged to family members.
Nevada State Parks Administrator David Morrow said the state just doesn't have the $100,000 a year needed to keep the park open.
