More acreage bought for Carson City parks

CARSON CITY -- Nearly a 1,000 acres of land is being added to Carson City's parks system in the Carson River Canyon.

The city purchased 419 acres along the river Jan. 28. Officials are negotiating the purchase of another 490 acres in the same area. The land purchased last month protects more than three miles of frontage along the river.

Carson City Open Space Manager John Guzman says the city will now own the land along the river almost to the Lyon County border. The city will open the land to passive recreation.
