Man shot, killed by police near Desert Inn and McLeod

Las Vegas police shot and killed a man Monday morning during a confrontation outside a convenience store.

The deadly encounter happened about 5:50 a.m. at the Speedee Mart at 3011 East Desert Inn Road at the intersection with McLeod Drive.

Officers arrived and found a couple arguing in the parking lot. The man began swinging a wooden walking stick at officers, who used a taser stun gun and bean bag shot gun to try to stop him, officer Marcus Martin said.

When neither worked, one of the officers fired, he said.

The Speedee Mart and surrounding parking lot were surrounded in yellow crime scene tape while detectives investigated the shooting.
