Henderson firefighters battle multiple blazes Wednesday night

The Henderson Fire Department battled multiple fires Wednesday night, including a blaze that badly damaged two businesses and another that was deemed suspicious by investigators.

The first call came at 8:26 p.m. at 745 W. Sunset Blvd., near Gibson Road, in a strip mall, fire officials said.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of several of the businesses. A second alarm was called and several crews from the Clark County Fire Department arrived to assist.

The fire was brought under control in 45 minutes, but two of the businesses were gutted. Total damage to the structure was estimated at $250,000, authorities said. There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation.

Firefighters were called to another fire at 11:40 p.m. at 721 E. Lake Mead Parkway, near Warm Springs Road.

Firefighters discovered a vacant gas station with heavy smoke coming from the windows. The blaze was controlled within 10 minutes. Damage to the structure was severe and estimated at $100,000.

The cause is under investigation but deemed "suspicious in nature," authorities said. There were no injuries.
