Jardine powers Utah State to blowout win over Utah
LOGAN, UTAH -- Brady Jardine recorded career highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead Utah State past Utah 79-62 on Wednesday night.
Tai Wesley hit a 3-point shot as time expired to give him a season-high 21 points for the Aggies (3-1).
Will Clyburn and Josh Watkins led the Utes (3-1) with 15 points each, and Shawn Glover scored 13.
Trailing 35-26 at halftime, the Utes started the second half with 10-2 run to bring the score to 37-36.
But the Aggies pushed back to a comfortable lead with five consecutive points from Pooh Williams and two 3-pointers from Brian Green. Williams finished with 11 points.
The Aggies shot 30-for-39 from the free-throw line; the Utes scored eight points on free throws.
Jardine scored 14 points in the first half, shooting 5 of 5 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line.
■ New Mexico 78, Northwood 56 -- At Albuquerque, N.M., Phillip McDonald scored 13 points to help the Lobos roll over the Timberwolves.
McDonald made three of the Lobos' four 3-pointers and also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Bobby Lewis scored a game-high 14 points and had seven rebounds to lead the Timberwolves (1-5).
Northwood was within 25-19 late in the first half, but New Mexico (4-1) went on a 23-5 run that stretched into the second half, extending the lead to 48-24, with McDonald collecting eight points in the stretch.
Dairese Gary had 12 points, six assists and five steals for the Lobos.
■ Air Force 75, Wofford 66 -- At Spartanburg, S.C., Evan Washington scored seven of his 14 points in overtime to lead the Falcons past the Terriers.
Air Force (3-1) went 4-for-4 from the field and scored eight of the first 10 points in the extra period to win its first game on an opponent's home court since a 71-64 victory at Northern Colorado on Dec. 6, 2007.
Noah Dahlman's layup pulled Wofford (2-4) within 64-61 with 1:36 left, but Taylor Broekhuis made a layup, and the Falcons went 6 of 10 from the free-throw line the rest of the way.
Air Force led 55-50 before a 6-1 Terriers run sent the game into overtime. After Washington made one of two free throws, Wofford's Jamar Diggs hit a jumper to tie the score at 56 with 16 seconds left in regulation.
Diggs finished with 20 points.
■ Providence 84, Wyoming 77 -- At Playa del Carmen, Mexico, Vincent Council scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Friars past the Cowboys.
Council, a sophomore guard, was 16-for-16 from the free-throw line and 6-for-9 from the field as Providence (5-1) finished third in the Cancun Challenge.
Providence scored 20 points off 17 turnovers and led by 15 with 8:22 remaining.
Gerald Coleman scored 15 points, Duke Mondy 12 and Marshon Brooks 10 for the Friars.
The Cowboys (2-4) had a 48-26 advantage in the paint but were 4-for-16 from 3-point range. They were 15-for-17 from the free-throw line.
Desmar Jackson led Wyoming with 21 points and eight rebounds. Amath M'Baye and Djibril Thiam scored 19 each.
