Pacquiao says he'll exit
sport when he hits 35

His status as a great fighter secure following his latest victory, Manny Pacquiao plans to leave boxing in three years.

Pacquiao, a congressman, spoke in the Philippine House of Representatives on Monday in Manila. He received the congressional medal for the second time.

Pacquiao, who turns 32 next month, was asked at a news conference when he intends to retire.

"Not too long from now," he said. "But I don't want to go beyond 35."

Pacquiao scored a lopsided decision over Antonio Margarito on Nov. 13 in Arlington, Texas. He is the only boxer to hold eight championship belts in eight different divisions.

Petty restructures, will
field two Cup teams

Richard Petty finished financially restructuring his race team and will field two fewer cars in 2011.

The seven-time NASCAR champion said Richard Petty Motorsports will go from four Sprint Cup cars to two next year. RPM will field Fords for AJ Allmendinger and Marcos Ambrose.

The reduction in teams is expected to lead to significant layoffs at RPM, which Petty said "is never an easy process for the people involved."

"Currently, we are concentrating on building two solid programs," Petty said.

Nadal outlasts Roddick
in ATP Finals opener

Top-ranked Rafael Nadal rallied to beat Andy Roddick 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 to open group round-robin play at the ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Nadal, who had lost four straight matches at the season-ending event for the top eight players in the world, was a set and a break down when he finally started to play at his best.

In the other Group A match, third-seeded Novak Djokovic beat Tomas Berdych, 6-3, 6-3.

Also: Major League Soccer announced it will investigate aligning its schedule with soccer's international calendar, responding to a demand from FIFA as the United States bids to host the 2022 World Cup.

The 24-man executive committee will decide on Dec. 2 whether to award the 2022 hosting rights to the United States, Australia, Japan, Korea or Qatar.

Aligning with the international calendar would help MLS teams attract top talent -- and avoid losing players to national team duty for World Cup qualifiers and other friendly matches.

The family of a 2-year-old boy was posing for pictures in a luxury suite high inside Staples Center when the boy managed to scale a clear safety barrier and fell about 30 feet to his death, police said.

Lucas Anthony Tang suffered head injuries Sunday when he landed on rows of seats minutes after the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Golden State Warriors 117-89, police said. The boy later died at a hospital.
