HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 7 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Perfect Feat - Outran her 20/1 odds in debut for Richard Mandella; has a lot of race conditions from now on.
3 Bar Rock Omama - Explosive 9-length maiden claiming win; she too has a lot of conditions as she went unclaimed.
Long Shot - 4 The Great Atlantic
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds
2 Mark of a Warrior - Career-best effort in beating NW2L condition; has proven he does not need the lead to succeed.
9 Warren's Dove - Speedball tactics and now switches to top gate rider P Val; will go as fast and as far as he can.
Long Shot - 5 Good Brother
Race 3 - 6½ furlongs, Purse $44,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Distinctive - Big-time class relief from the grade 2 Las Palmas to this; turns back in distance and trying synthetics.
2 Gilded Gem - Been away 8 months for Bob Baffert; this is clearly a tune-up for bigger fish down the road.
Long Shot - 4 Appealing Afare
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $37,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Winsome Charm - Square price on a horse that proves he belongs at this class level; saves ground and grinds it out late.
4 Great Siege - Big class relief from the grade 3 Sunset to this rich claimer; he's certainly good enough to beat these.
Long Shot - 2 Kris Silver
Race 5 - 6½ furlongs, Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
4 C Tizz Run - Solid debut at Del Mar where he faced better foes than this; is a 5-YO who took a long time to make his debut.
7 Armenian Star - His better races have come over synthetics; was well bet in last and fought hard to the line.
Long Shot - 1 Magical Instinct
Race 6 - 6½ furlongs, Purse $11,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
7 Rathman - Tough trip in last, is capable of much better; twice beaten chalk from the hot Mike Mitchell barn.
1 Elusive Moment - Ground saving trip can be an advantage in such an even field; improving for trainer Ed Moger.
Long Shot - 3 Greenwich Park
Race 7 - 6 furlongs (turf), $55,000 Raise Your Skirts, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Go On Babe - Prefer the inside posts in a turf sprint at Hollywood; the elbow bend parks the outside posts very wide.
3 Waveline - Was seriously overmatched in the BC Turf Sprint; if she hasn't been traumatized, she should fight hard with these.
Long Shot - 6 Reba Is Tops
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
9 Primed - Huge rider switch to Rafael Bejarano for the money shot; suspect he'll sit in arrears and make one brush.
2 Marino's Promise - Didn't perform up to the usual Mike Mitchell off-the-claim bar; adding blinkers on, expect improvement.
Long Shot - 1 Irridescent Red
Race 9 - 1 mile (turf), $250,000 Matriarch, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Special Duty - Group 1 runner in France should finder easier fishing in the U.S.; main question is adapting to our turf.
1 Gypsy's Warning - Ran well in the Yellow Ribbon as a beaten favorite; she might be better off with a target this time.
Long Shot - 5 Go Forth North
Race 10 - 7 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
5 Battle School - Brice Blanc had choices and lands here on the chalk; his race two back if repeated would crush these.
10 Secret Jackpot - His race two back is fast enough to upset these; has shown good tactical, an asset in a no-passing-zone field.
Long Shot - 2 Battling Atticus
Best Bet - 5 Battle School (race 10)
Hollywood Park Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$19.40; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.60
Hollywood Park Totals - 212/60/$325.60; Long Shots, 104/19/$180.60; Best Bets, 13/3/$11.20
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - 3 Brahman (5/2) in race 3 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Hold the Salt ran out at Churchill Downs. Stats - 194/140/$1,072.00
