Henderson police identify robbery suspect shot in standoff

A robbery suspect who suffered what Henderson police said was a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a standoff Saturday has been identified as 26-year-old Justin Mueller.

Henderson police said the standoff happened Saturday afternoon in the area of Lake Mead Parkway and Boulder Highway. Mueller and a 23-year-old woman were stopped by police after workers at a nearby Check and Go shop reported being robbed. Police ordered the two out of the vehicle. The woman obeyed, but Mueller did not, police said. Officers fired shots after hearing a gunshot inside the car.

Police did not specify how many times officers fired at Mueller but said that Mueller was not hit by those shots.

On Monday, police identified the officers who fired at Mueller as Jarrod DeAngelis, hired in 2007, and Troy McDermed, hired in 2006.

They were placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Mueller remained hospitalized Monday at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. He faces the recommended charge of robbery.
