Apple updates mobile system

If you carry an Apple iPhone, iPod or iPad it's time to head to your computer and sync it up, as the much-awaited operating system upgrade is ready. The iOS 4.2 includes many features for the iPad that had already been in use on the iPhone and iPod, such as multitasking and folder organization.

I just finished testing an iPad for a couple of days and found it frustrating to be forced to revert to an older system on the newest Apple device. This upgrade brings the same features to the latest models of each device.

Other features of the 4.2 iOS include:
— Air Print, which enables wireless printing from the devices.
— Air Play, which enables the wireless playing of videos and other digital media from a device to an Apple TV-equipped television
— Find My Phone, which is used to find a misplaced device. This previously was part of the Mobile Me suite of services, which carries an annual fee of $99. The iPhone, iPad or iPod locator is now free.
— iTunes television show rentals.
