UFC 121: Cain knocks out Lesnar in first round for heavyweight title

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Cain Velasquez knocked out Brock Lesnar 4:12 into the first round to take the Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 121 tonight.

Lesnar opened the fight by charging across the cage and eventually taking down Velasquez, but he couldn't keep him on the mat.

Once back on his feet, Velasquez used his superior striking to knock Lesnar down. He then dropped a barrage of blows on the former professional wrestler.

Lesnar tried to cover up and actually got back on his feet momentarily, but Velasquez sent him right back to the mat and continued to pound away until the fight was stopped.

Also, Jake Shields earned a split decision victory over Las Vegan Martin Kampmann.
