Hoosiers move on after rout

Credit Indiana University administrators with the foresight to take a $3 million payout before the season to move Saturday's home football game against Penn State to Landover, Md.

Getting out of town is probably the best thing the Hoosiers can do this week after losing 83-20 at Wisconsin on Saturday, the most points given up in a Big Ten football game since 1950.

Penn State's 11-game conference winning streak over Indiana is good enough reason to save Hoosiers fans from further embarrassment at home. Also, Indiana (4-7) is riding a four-game losing streak.

Hoosiers coach Bill Lynch delayed updating his resume long enough to say that things aren't as bad as they appeared Saturday. He is convinced Indiana will have a better showing against Penn State.

"We have not had one conversation about (the Wisconsin score) in our football complex, not in our locker room, not on the plane on the way home," Lynch said. "We addressed where we didn't play well."

The Hoosiers can't play any worse -- they hope -- Saturday at FedEx Field than the team that calls the stadium home. The Washington Redskins were routed 59-28 by the Philadelphia Eagles there Monday night.

■ NASH TURNOVER -- Steve Nash's vision helps make him one of the best passers in basketball. Too bad his vision was not so acute nine months ago.

The popular Phoenix Suns point guard and his wife, Alejandra, celebrated the birth of their third child, a son named Matteo, on Friday. A day later, Nash announced that the couple is in the process of a divorce after nine years of marriage.

Nash, 36, told Life & Style magazine that he and his wife have lived separately for several months. They also have 6-year-old twin girls, Lola and Bella.

■ STEELER BOOTED -- Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed flubbed a 26-yard field-goal attempt Sunday in a 39-26 loss to New England -- his seventh miss in 22 attempts this season.

After the game, Reed blamed the botched kick on the condition of the turf at Heinz Field and complained about Pittsburgh fans who want to "bash" him.

Reed also said he wanted to stay in Pittsburgh and retire as a Steeler.

Pittsburgh cut Reed on Tuesday, so if no other team picks him up, the eight-year NFL veteran will get his wish of going out as a Steeler, or at least an ex-Steeler.

■ LINGERIE FOOTBALL NOT OK -- The Lingerie Football League is getting more exposure now that Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett told the league to forget about plans to expand into his city and play in a city-owned venue.

Cornett frowns on women playing tackle football while wearing skimpy tops and tight shorts.

However, he had no problem last month with a gathering of satanic church followers who used the city's Civic Center for an event that included the portrayal of a ritual exorcism.

"We find it interesting that satanic worship at the Civic Center and cheerleaders wearing far less than our athletes is moral, but LFL is not," league spokesman Stephon McMillen said.
