Audubon bird count scheduled for Jan. 2 in Carson Valley

CARSON CITY-- The Audubon Christmas Bird Count will take place in Carson Valley on Jan. 2.

The bird count uses thousands of volunteers across the United States and Canada to determine bird species and populations for inclusion in the Audubon scientific data base.

This year is the celebration of the 111th anniversary of the count.

The Nevada Appeal reports that the area covered in the Carson Valley is 15 miles in diameter.

The Carson Valley count is being led by Birding Under Nevada Skies owner Jim Woods, who will be leading his second count.

Woods is seeking volunteers to help identify and count as many birds as possible in the Carson Valley.
