Amnesty: Sen. Reid plays with political fire

The news today that Nevada's Sen. Harry Reid will attach to a defense funding bill an unrelated piecemeal amnesty bill for illegal aliens is a risky move politically for the unpopular Democrat.

Polls are very clear about how Nevadans feel about illegal immigration in general and amnesty in specific. Yet Reid, as he did with spending bills and health care "reform", is pushing ahead no matter what most Nevadans think. It's called the DREAM Act and calls for citizenship for young illegal aliens who go to college or serve in the military.

If the Angle/Reid race is as close as polls say it is and the race comes down to influencing the small percentage of independent thinking voters who have not yet made up their minds, this move is nothing but playing with fire. Saying it will be controversial with independent Nevada voters is an understatement.

As always, you tell me -- does this help him, or hurt him?
