Man’s body found in Lake Havasu

The body believed to be that of a drowning victim was recovered Wednesday on the California side of Lake Havasu.

Authorities believe the body pulled from 7 feet of water some 200 yards from shore is that of the Huntington Beach, Calif., man who went missing on the lake in that same area Tuesday.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's office was notified at 6:42 p.m. that Joseph Harry Hetherington, 62, was missing. Sgt. Tim Smith said Hetherington had jumped into the water from his boat and struggled in the water before slipping under the surface.

An initial search was halted at dark Tuesday night. Searchers returned Wednesday morning and located the body about 7 a.m.

The coroner's office hasn't yet made a positive identification of the body and determined the cause of death.
