Man, 20, held in February fatal shooting

A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on murder charges related to a February shooting in which he fired a handgun into a car, according to his arrest warrant.

At 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 26, Allen Duplan was outside his house at 2843 Beacon Falls Way, near Vegas Valley Drive and Nellis Boulevard, when a vehicle approached and parked there, the warrant said.

Police said "admitted gang members" Jannet Sanchez, Adrian Olivera and Angel Olivera had driven to the area to "locate rival gang members and fight them," the warrant said.

Angel Olivera later told police he drove onto Beacon Falls Way with a pellet rifle hanging out the window. As he drove by Duplan and a friend, he pointed the gun at them and challenged them to a fight, the report said.

Duplan went inside the house and got a handgun, the report said.

Duplan told police he was scared and thought the suspects were going to do a drive-by shooting and that he fired the handgun at the vehicle to try to scare them away.

Sanchez, who was in the back seat, was struck in the face. She died from her injuries two days later.

The report said Duplan and several others who witnessed the shooting gave statements to police admitting their involvement.

It was not clear why Duplan was arrested several months after the shooting, but the warrant for his arrest was not signed until June 14, records show.

He is being held at Clark County Detention Center.
