Staying safer on Facebook
July 26, 2010 - 8:48 pm
I guess a half-billion people have a strong enough voice to be heard by Facebook, as the social networking site today launched an updated Facebook Safety Center. OK, not all 500 million Facebook members were rumbling about safety and security, but more than 2.2 million of them have become fans of the Facebook Security Page, which has information about how to keep your personal information personal (among other things).
A blog post today by Joe Sullivan of Facebook announced the new feature, saying "online safety is a shared responsibility." I couldn't agree more, Joe, as far too many Internet users don't take an active role in what they've signed up for, posted information to or accepted by clicking. It's time for everyone to visit his or her Facebook settings, understand what's there and make it a habit.
Sullivan wrapped up his blog post with: "make safety a regular part of your Facebook experience."
Amen.
