HORSE RACING
TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 3:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Not Here - Flattered when Go Forth North won next out; switching from turf to synthetics, will be rallying late.
Zippin E - Keeneland shipper ran the best race of her life over synthetics; transferred to Mike Mitchell here.
Long Shot - For the Memories
Race 2 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Devil's Mate - Morning line chalk is strictly the one to beat, been away 5 months; 3 seconds are a strong resume in here.
La Rapidez - Her resume looks awful; key is taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming.
Long Shot - Nine Rails
Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 14 feet), Purse $48,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds
Lyons Barton - Really turned it around in 2-turn races; like the turn back in distance for this flat mile turf route.
Camp Victory - Has won 2 of 5 races on grass so he must be respected; like that Rafael Bejarano remains loyal to the cause.
Long Shot - Keen Bidder
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $8,000, 4-year-olds and up
Candy Coat - Did everything but win last time out; rail post to save all the ground, figures well on paper.
Skippy Due - Logical chalk has won 2 races in a row while sliding down the claiming ladder; no one has stepped in yet.
Long Shot - One Vote
Race 5 - 1 3/8th miles (turf, rail at 14 feet), $75,000 CTT and TOC Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Princess Taylor - Exits two graded stakes for this much easier spot; mare needs this as a confidence booster.
Restless Soul - Loses her rider to the chalk; Joel Rosario is an able sub, expect a chilly ride and fast finish.
Long Shot - Gripsholm Castle
Race 6 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Blue Tango - Flattered when both Nothing to Fear and Really Elegant won next out; she's the one to catch.
Mo Cheese - Ran like a short horse as a short price off an 18-month hiatus; offers value at 7/2 odds.
Long Shot - Ms Cecile
Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 14 feet), Purse $57,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Ruination - Speedball will enjoy the turf rail out 14 feet; has the best speed rider in the room, P Val, on board.
Americas Dreaming - She is the best closer in this bulky field; Joel Rosario will sit in arrears and make one brush.
Long Shot - Calle Vista
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds and up
Graydle's Red - Ran like most green babies do, slow early, fast late; a better start makes the job a lot easier.
Call Me Later - Ran evenly in a well-bet career debut for the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer; adding blinkers on for this.
Long Shot - Airwar
Best Bet - Princess Taylor (race 5)
Del Mar Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 13/4/$26.60; Long Shots, 8/3/$23.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.60
Del Mar Totals - 442/106/$694.80; Long Shots, 222/32/$361.20; Best Bets, 27/10/$47.00
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #7 Perfect Footprint (8/5) in race 2 at Monmouth Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Chris Got Even ran second at Saratoga paying $2.90 to place and $2.40 to show. Stats - 155/111/$838.00
