Man fatally shot during fight Saturday identified

The man who was fatally shot during a fight downtown Saturday was identified Tuesday by the Clark County coroner's office as Ilaiasi Matagle.

The coroner's office did not identify Matagle's age or city of residence. He died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said Matagle was arguing with another man about 4:15 a.m. in the 400 block of E. Fremont St., near Fitzgeralds, when he pulled a knife and began stabbing the man. The man then pulled a gun and shot Matagle dead.

The stabbing victim was not identified by police and was in critical condition over the weekend. His condition was unavailable Tuesday but the coroner had no record of another death in connection with the fight.

Police said they might submit the case to the district attorney's office for possible charges if the unidentified man survives his wounds.
