Bubbles up for Google

The Google home page (in Classic view) has a different look today and nobody is quite sure why. The logo, which comes to life and scatters bubbly bouncing balls when your cursor dances across, is a classic time-waster. Try it while you can at Google.com.

In case the animated logo has been replaced with the standard design, or something else, here's a YouTube video showing the animation:

The folks at Google often have fun with their logo — celebrating birthdays, events or anniversaries. They call it Google doodles, and you can see a collection of them at Google.com/logos.

I searched for an explanation for today's dancing-ball logo, and found that Google isn't talking. Some observers speculate that the logo celebrates the search engine’s 12th anniversary; others believe it's a prelude to a Google announcement.
