Rory Reid: give higher ed tuition flexibility

CARSON CITY -- Rory Reid says Nevada's colleges and universities should be allowed to keep increased tuition and fees for their own campuses.

In his plan for higher education released Thursday, the Democratic gubernatorial nominee also advocates allowing higher tuition for more expensive programs, and focusing curriculum on areas more likely to spur job creation and economic diversity.

Reid says higher education should be an incubator for innovation and benefit from the commercialization of technology developed by faculty and researchers.

He also proposes partnerships between the system's various campuses to encourage funding based on efficiency instead of enrollment numbers.
