Suspect in woman’s slaying pleads not guilty

A 51-year-old man charged in a domestic violence slaying pleaded not guilty Tuesday in District Court.

Jon Hendie Morris faces one count of murder in the December death of Mecenda Mazone, 34. Police found her body at her home at the Bonanza Park Condominiums on West Bonanza Road, near Rancho Drive.

Morris told detectives he killed Mazone during a fight in early November, Las Vegas police said.

Morris had been charged with beating Mazone in the past. Court records show he also faces two counts of battery domestic violence in separate cases.

He is being held without bail.
