State boards, commissions to get review

CARSON CITY -- Administration officials will begin a review of state boards and commissions ordered by Gov. Jim Gibbons to determine if all are needed.

Gibbons spokesman Dan Burns said the governor's goal is to streamline bureaucracy.

The responsibilities of some licensing boards may overlap with others, he said.

The governor's office has called for a meeting with the heads and executive directors of more than 100 occupational licensing boards Wednesday to begin the review.

To prepare for that meeting, Budget Director Andrew Clinger has asked them to fill out a questionnaire. The questionnaire asks what the board does, whether the body is mandated by the constitution, state or federal law and what activity or service the board provides.

The questionnaire also asks what impact eliminating the board would have.
