Selecting judges: Who will decide?
In November the voters of Nevada will vote on whether to disenfranchise themselves when it comes to selecting Judges. The campaign is underway to persuade people to choose judges with a selection committee and gubernatorial appointment.
They say the voters are too ill informed or uninformed to make such important decisions.
This is what Thomas Jefferson said of the voters:
"I know no safe depositary of the ultimate powers of the society
but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened
enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the
remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion
by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of
constitutional power."
--Thomas Jefferson to William C. Jarvis, 1820.
