HORSE RACING

TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 2 furlongs, Purse $28,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds

Walkin D Talk - Before the meet ends, Walther Solis will win his share of baby races; bred to win early too.

Warren's Gus - Top baby race combo of Martin Pedroza and Cliff Sise; watch the tote board for additional clues.

Long Shot - Bourne to Romp

Race 2 - 2 furlongs, Purse $28,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds

Kept Secret - Could be a Walther Solis daily double; you have a big edge over me in seeing the betting on this filly.

Quick Tide - Bullet works and bugboy spell simple tactics for Mel Stute colt; you leave quick and improve your position.

Long Shot - Warren's Royal Cat

Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Optional claiming $46,000, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up

Spot the Diplomat - Showed immediate improvement off the claim by Jeff Mullins; grinder figures to be right there again.

Lordgivemealift - Speedball was claimed off a win at Golden Gate and shipped south; has won in SoCal more than once.

Long Shot - Buck's Bro

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Maiden special weights, 4-year-olds and up

Pious David - Mike Mitchell is giving Tyler Baze more work lately; will sit a trip and explode down the lane late.

Unionize - Returns off a 10-month hiatus is a very soft spot; was well regarded when 3-times a defeated favorite.

Long Shot - Derive

Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

No Mistress - Ran OK in first race under Doug O'Neill; expect him to tighten the screws in her second out for the barn.

Spun Silver - Speedball returns off a 9-month hiatus; been well bet in both career starts, we'll see what she's got.

Long Shot - Stormy Slew

Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $32,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies, 4-year-olds

Vikkilee - Key for me is Rafael Bejarano had choices and opted to ride for Vladimr Cerin; won only start down the hill.

Forever My Love - Like the turn back in distance from routes to hillside sprint; expect best stride to come late.

Long Shot - Foxy Bailey

Race 7 - 7 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Blame the Wine - Consistent sort runs the same race every time; she seems to give as good as she gets in tight finishes.

Wood Art - Like the turn back in distance from 2-turn routes for this elongated sprint; best stride will come late.

Long Shot - Initial Impression

Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up

Oh Now - Flew home late to just miss in last; Chantal Sutherland returned to Woodbine, Martin Pedroza takes over.

Hollywood Mogul - Decent return off a 14-month sabbatical; outran his 43/1 odds, chance if he improves another step.

Long Shot - Olympic Magic

Best Bet - Blame the Wine (race 7)

Santa Anita Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/3/$12.40; Long Shots, 8/2/$28.00; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.00

Santa Anita Totals - 1,140/294/$1,951.00; Long Shots, 559/89/$912.80; Best Bets, 68/24/$135.00

SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #9 Road Track's Dream (3/1) in race 9 at Gulfstream Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Wednesday, Targe was scratched at Gulfstream Park. Stats - 68/50/$388.90
