CCSD to honor top new teachers

The Clark County School District will honor its top new teachers of the year at its next School Board meeting on April 22.

The teachers are considered “new” because they’re in their first year of working full time in education.

They are:

• Special education teachers -- Jem Heinz-Nelson of Adcock Elementary School and Larry Wuorio of Matt Kelly Elementary School (tie)

• Specialist -- Elizabeth Klenk of Kitty Ward Elementary School

• Elementary school teacher for the primary grades -- Anila Hylvio of C.T. Sewell Elementary School and Elizabeth Was of Jay Jeffers Elementary School (tie)

• Elementary school teacher for intermediate grades -- Erica Scott of Kay Carl Elementary School

• Middle school teacher -- Tracy Gifford of Brinley Middle School

• High school teacher -- Bethany Dixon of Las Vegas High School
