Volunteer search party to look for missing man on Mount Charleston
The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking information regarding Heriberto “Nony” Herrera, 40, who has been reported as missing. Herrera is believed to have disappeared in the Mount Charleston area.
An exhaustive search of the mountain was conducted by police and came up dry, so a group of experienced hikers and rock climbers plans to meet at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the Resort on Mount Charleston, 2 Kyle Canyon Road, to conduct further searches between Mary Jane Falls and Cathedral Rock, an area with particularly rough terrain.
Two weeks ago, the vehicle Herrera was traveling in, a white 1999 Toyota 4Runner bearing Nevada license plate No. 722-MLR, was found at a parking lot on Mount Charleston near the Mary Jane Falls trailhead, according to police. The suitcase, a case of bottled water with one bottle missing and other belongings were found inside the vehicle, police said.
The father and primary caregiver of twins was last seen at his home May 13. He was wearing a blue half-cast on the lower portion of his left arm and has a condition that requires medication, police said. Before he disappeared, Herrera had packed a suitcase and planned on spending a few days away, police said. Herrera is Hispanic, stands 5-foot-10, weighs 200 pounds and has brown eyes and a fair complexion, police said.
Residents with any information regarding the matter are asked to call the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Missing Persons Detail at 828-3111 or 828-5678.
