May 4, 2010 - 11:00 pm
TODAY AT Hollywood PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds
Spark City - Give her another chance despite not putting up much fight in last; may need to bottom out the field.
Stormin Rae - Trainer Adam Kitchingman has an uncoupled entry; of course, this is the longer odds horse, be wary.
Long Shot - Bourne To Romp
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
All Man - Logical chalk has a significant class edge over these; show start early on this meet for Julio Canani barn.
Partywithlarryz - I've always liked the angle when a horse wins, but runs a slower Beyer speed figure; dangerous foe.
Long Shot - High Standards
Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up
Sidepocket Lou - Big improvement from one bugboy to another in Christian Reyes; should be finishing fast.
Swiss Ski - Another dead late closer will also need help on the front end; fortunately these are his friends.
Long Shot - My Man Sumo
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $44,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
El Nadia - Beaten favorite gets a big rider switch to Rafael Bejarano; he rides the filly Blind Luck for Jerry Hollendorfer.
Oui Say Oui - Her better races have been on grass; going 2 turns may be a bigger question than the sod surface.
Long Shot - Terrify
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Island of Zen - From one of the best underrated trainers in Greg Gilchrist; been toiling in NoCal, she fits well here.
Cenizo - Has burned a lot of money in her last 3 starts; been away 14-months so the question will be her fitness level.
Long Shot - Poetic Riches
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $15,600, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
L'Enchanteresse - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; was favored in last price tag race.
Ruby Lane - Good even effort in last, her first start in 11-months; suspect the race will tighten her up for this.
Long Shot - Foxy Approval
Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $44,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Diamond Tags - Has shown by her speed figures she is much better on grass; lost by a dirty head bob in last.
Victoria Reel - Drops down in class to the lowest level of her career; has always lacked a killer instinct late.
Long Shot - Silver Games
Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $42,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Kissed - Dead late closer figures to get overlooked in here; like the way Alonso Quinonez has been riding of late.
Minister d'Oro - His turf debut was a good one when second in last; tepid favorite could improve again tonight.
Long Shot - Cee's Closing Time
Best Bet - El Nadia (race 4)
Hollywood Park Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/3/$13.60; Long Shots, 7/1/$7.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Park Totals - 136/34/$207.60; Long Shots, 66/5/$52.40; Best Bets, 8/3/$12.00
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #6 Stungbythestorm (1/1) in race 3 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Franny Freud won at Aqueduct paying $2.50 to win, $2.10 to place and $2.10 to show. Stats - 84/60/$459.70
