Officer shoots at, misses robbery suspect; man arrested

A Las Vegas police officer shot at and missed a robbery suspect late Sunday evening, officials said Monday.

Police spokesman Sgt. Andy Walsh said the incident happened about 11 p.m. near Torrey Pines Drive and Smoke Ranch Road, when an officer made contact with a man suspected in a robbery earlier that night.

During a foot pursuit, the man pointed a gun at the officer. The officer fired at the suspect, missing him.

After the shooting, the suspect was taken into custody with a Taser after a physical altercation. No one was injured, he said.

The officer who fired his weapon has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. His name won’t be released until 48 hours after the incident, following police policy.
