Bishop Gorman guard Loyd going to Oregon, not UNLV

Johnathan Loyd, a 5-foot-9-inch point guard from Bishop Gorman High School, has committed to Oregon to play college basketball. Loyd turned down a scholarship offer from UNLV.

Loyd was weighing offers from Northwestern and several other schools before late interest from UNLV and Oregon complicated his decision. He took a weekend visit to Oregon, which recently hired Dana Altman as its coach. Altman attempted to recruit Loyd to Creighton.

Loyd averaged 13.3 points and 8.2 assists as a senior for the Gaels, who went 30-2 and won the Class 4A state title last season.
