Coming soon: Excessive heat watch for valley

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch in Southern Nevada for Saturday afternoon through Monday evening.

The watch is for elevations below 4,000 feet within the Mojave Desert region. High temperatures in Las Vegas are expected to reach at least 106 on Saturday and slightly higher Sunday and Monday. Temperatures may hit 115 along the Colorado River Valley and 120 at Death Valley National Park.

Valley residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids and to stay out of the sun as much as possible to avoid heat-related illnesses.
