Rebels head to Oklahoma City

If there was any doubt about whether UNLV would recieve a bid in the NCAA Tournament, it was erased almost immediately after the selection show began.

The second matchup announced on the program was eighth-seeded UNLV against No. 9 seed Northern Iowa.

The game will take place in Oklahoma City.

The show featured a live cut-in to UNLV's team banquet at Cox Pavilion where players and fans were watching the show.

Better seed hurts?

UNLV got a better-than-expected seed, but it actually hurts the Rebels chances of advancing very far in the tournament.

UNLV would likely play Kansas if it advances to the second round.

The Rebels would have had a more advantageous path had they received a No. 10 seed and been able to potentially play a No. 2 seed in the second round.

The four top seeds are very good this year.

Of course, if the goal is to just win one game, the matchup is pretty favorable for UNLV.

Other Mountain West teams

BYU got a No. 7-seed and will play surprising entrant Florida in the first round.

The seed seems a bit low for the Cougars at first glance.

San Diego State received an 11-seed and will play Tennessee in the first round.

New Mexico, a No. 3 seed, will play 14-seeded Montana.
