Coroner identifies 4-month-old boy killed in ax attack

The Clark County coroner's office has identified the 4-month-old boy killed by a Las Vegas man wielding an ax Thursday as Damian Avila Castro.

The coroner's office listed the cause of death as "multiple chop wounds to the head." The death was ruled a homicide.

Las Vegas police said Castro was slain by 33-year-old Harold Montague. They said Montague first attacked his sister-in-law before attacking a woman pushing a stroller outside his home at 1609 San Pedro Ave., near Sahara Avenue and Maryland Parkway.

The boy's mother, Sandra Castro, was reported in critical condition Friday morning at Sunrise Hospital. Montague's sister-in-law, Monica O'Dazier, was listed in fair condition at University Medical Center as of noon Friday.

Montague was arrested by police soon after the midday attack. He told police he doesn't remember the attack.
