Building interchange on commissioners’ minds
A Clark County commissioner wants to use $25 million from a prospective land sale on the Strip to build an interchange on the northern Las Vegas Beltway.
Commissioner Steve Sisolak will ask , if the sale closes, that the money go toward the North Fifth Street interchange .
Sisolak thinks the money would be better spent on the interchange rather than enhancing infrastructure on the Strip or preserving county jobs.
"Why not build the ramp and put people to work?" he asked.
Retailers such as Target and Home Depot have sent e-mails asking for the interchange to give motorists easier access to the north valley stores, he said.
The sale of the county's 2.2 acres at Las Vegas Boulevard and Harmon Avenue has not closed. A group of buyers led by developer Brett Torino made a $2.5 million nonrefundable deposit on the land and have until early April to complete the sale.
But there may be other funding. The Regional Transportation Commission learned Thursday that stimulus funds might be available, Commissioner Larry Brown said .
