Coroner: Driver died from medical episode

The Las Vegas man who died Monday after his car struck a light pole in a grocery store parking lot was identified Tuesday by the Clark County coroner's office as 62-year-old Robert Fletcher.

The coroner's office said Fletcher died from cardiopulmonary arrest, which confirms Las Vegas police suspicion that the crash was related to a medical episode.

Police said the crash occurred about 1.10 p.m. while Fletcher was driving south through the northwest corner of Smith's parking lot at 4860 W. Desert Inn Road, at Decatur Boulevard.

Police said Fletcher's car veered west and struck a light pole. He was taken to Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
