High schools from four states in science bowl

More than 30 teams from high schools in four states are scheduled to compete this weekend in a Nevada Regional Science Bowl at the Atomic Testing Museum and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

The 19th annual competition uses a question-and-answer format to test math and science knowledge. Teams will come from schools in Northern and Southern Nevada, California, Arizona and Utah.

Questions can be about astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, general science, mathematics and physics.

The 13-round tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday in the UNLV classroom building complex, with a lunch reception at the Moyer Student Union.

It's all hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration Nevada Site Office.

Regional winners can end up in the National Science Bowl finals in Washington, D.C.
