Winter Olympics map app

The folks at Bing, the Microsoft Corp. search engine, have come up with
another way to follow the 2010 Winter Olympics. The new Bing Maps' Winter
Games application (http://bit.ly/9v21HL) delivers up-to-the-minute
information about everything from medal counts to venue news and
information. There are links to blogs and news from the games, too.

A click on the map pin for Cypress Mountain, for example, brings a pop-up
window with address and event information. You may also click for
directions, to share the information by e-mail or to zoom in to the Bing
Map features. These include a street-level scene of a parking area on the
mountain. A click on the pin for Canada Hockey Place (also named General
Motors Place) brings you to a view outside a stadium entrance. You can use
the tools on the image to pan 360-degrees, zoom in or move down the road.
It's like being there, without having to wonder what the exchange rate is
for U.S. to Canadian dollars.

You can also see the 50 most recent Twitter tweets sent by Olympic
athletes. Map pins show where the tweets originated.

Bing teamed with NBC Olympics on this interactive feature. You'll need to
have the current version of Silverlight installed on your computer to run
this application.

Check it out, eh?
