Builders’ show held Jan. 19-22

The National Home Builders International Builders' Show returned to Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Convention Center Jan. 19-22. The building industry trade show offered more than 175 educational sessions. The exhibit floor featured builders, remodelers, developers, dealers and distributors. In addition, there was a separate multifamily and condo area. The show also offered seminars addressing housing issues for residents 55 and older.

Celebrity guests included designers Paul DiMeo and Tracy Hutson of the ABC show, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," and Bill and Martin Gramatica, former National Football League kickers and brothers.

Investors and financial institutions were on-site to discuss troubled/distressed assets, refinancing and investments and possible solutions with attendees.

The show designated Jan. 20 as Green Day to acknowledge how the green movement is affecting the building with a keynote speech and sessions about incorporating green features in the home-building industry. Companies such as Marvin Windows and Doors produces certified Energy Star products that are eco-friendly and energy efficient along with recycling and reusing resources.

The New American Home 2010, being constructed using NAHB's green building standard, was not completed in time for tours during the show. A special exhibition area was set up to showcase the products used building the home.

IBS will move to Orlando, Fla. in 2011 and will return to Las Vegas in 2013.
