$6 million awarded for job training

WASHINGTON -- Nevada has been awarded $6 million in federal stimulus funds to retrain workers for jobs in renewable energy fields, it was announced Wednesday.

State leaders said the money will aid Nevada's recovery while building a work force for firms that manufacture solar energy elements and energy efficient components.

"Training men and women in these fields will help put Nevadans to work in the new green economy at a time when unemployment remains a top issue and families continue to struggle," said Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev.

The funds will be distributed to a range of Nevada schools, apprenticeship programs and partnerships of energy firms, according to Berkley's office.
