UNR journalism school receives grant

RENO -- A $7.96 million grant to the University of Nevada, Reno journalism school will provide students with the technology to compete in ever-evolving media formats for decades to come, school officials said.

"Right now we have print, broadcast, Internet and, increasingly, social media, but who knows what will be out there in the future," said Jerry Ceppos, dean of the Reynolds School of Journalism and Center for Advanced Media.

"What is so important about this grant is that we will be able to become completely digital and our infrastructure will allow us to pursue whatever the digital world requires."

In an example of changing ways in which news is delivered, the announcement of the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation's award to the journalism school that shares its name was broadcast live via streaming video from the school by a student.

The grant is the largest ever for Nevada's only accredited journalism school.
