Weather service issues high wind warning for Las Vegas

Hang on to your hats as gusts up to 60 miles per hour barrel into the Las Vegas Valley today, meteorologists say.

A high wind warning is in effect from 7 a.m. to midnight Tuesday for the area with gusts around 35 mph to 45 mph, the National Weather Service in Las Vegas said.

A strong low pressure system coupled with a cold front are ushering in the gusty conditions.

An air quality advisory was issued for today through Wednesday as blowing dust could harm sensitive groups. Officials suggest staying inside during gusty times.

Temperatures are expected to drop as well, with highs only reaching the mid 60s. Averages for Oct. 27 are in the mid 70s, meteorologists at the weather service said.
