Coroner’s inquest jury determines death excusable

A Clark County coroner's inquest jury determined today that a man who died Nov. 1 while Las Vegas police officers were attempting to subdue him caused his own death.

Daniel Morantes, 47, died from cocaine and ethanol intoxication, with contributing factors being an enlarged heart and a physical altercation with law enforcement officers, a medical examiner with the Clark County coroner's office determined.

The coroner's jury agreed, ruling Morantes' death excusable after deliberating over the the lunch hour.
