18-year-olds face murder charges
Victor Veliz and Timothy Chester, who are accused of collaborating to kill Chester's parents last week, made their first court appearances Monday.
Veliz and Chester, both 18, appeared separately Monday morning. Legal counsel for Veliz filed a request to consolidate the cases.
The two were arrested in connection with the slayings of Thomas and Carla Chester, who were found shot to death Wednesday in their east valley mobile home. Carla Chester also had been stabbed.
Authorities said Timothy Chester plotted the deaths and had Veliz, his best friend, carry out the killings.
Veliz has said that Chester threatened him with death if he didn't participate in the plan.
The men were booked into the Clark County Detention Center on two counts each of murder with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit murder. They also face one count each of burglary in connection with the double slaying. Chester also faces an additional robbery charge.
Both men waived their right to a preliminary hearing.
Veliz's next court date is Oct. 26. Chester is scheduled for a Nov. 3 hearing.
